Troy Mattern | Head Coach

Troy Mattern is entering his first year as the Head Football Coach at Shanley High School. Prior to Shanley, Coach Mattern spent 13 seasons as a member of the Fargo South coaching staff. 2010 marked his first year as Head Coach as he led the Bruins to an 11-1 record and the North Dakota AAA Championship. The Bruins also won the State Championship in 2013. Prior to 2010 season, Mattern was an assistant coach at South for six seasons where the Bruins competed in the state championship game each of those seasons winning State Titles in 2004, 2006, 2007.  In 2011, Coach Mattern was Head Coach of the Badlands Bowl and in 2012 and 2014 he was Head Coach of 11 Man East in the annual Shrine game. In 2012, Coach Mattern was named both EDC and AAA State Coach of the Year and in 2016 was named EDC Coach of the Year.  Currently 21 former Bruins are playing college football at various levels. Prior to Fargo South, Coach Mattern started his career out in Richfield, MN where he spent 5 years. During that time, he coached against the likes of Larry Fitzgerald and Joe Mauer.  Coach Mattern and his wife Jamie, have 4 children, twins Lydia and Cooper who will be going into 9th grade, Jax will be going into 4th grade, and Ily into 1st grade.  A native of Warroad, MN, Troy is a member of the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame.
